Happy Thursday, Space Cadets! There will be no Animorphs this week due to reasons of Sean’s birthday. Happy birthday Sean! We’re also celebrating another anniversary this week–our own! We launched one year ago, and we’re so proud of all we’ve done here–covering 68 science fiction YA and MG titles in our first year alone (not to mention recaps of 31 Animorphs titles, articles, interviews, and more!). We can’t wait to continue the discussion about young adult science fiction for years to come.
In celebration, we’re giving away our favorite things in the whole wide world–books! If you’re a US resident, fill out the Rafflecopter widget below to be entered to win one of the four following prizes (contest ends 12:01 am EST on Friday, 9/14):
Prize Pack 1
The Lorien Legacies by Pittacus Lore (I Am Number Four, The Power of Six, and an advance readers copy of The Rise of Nine)
Prize Pack 2
Published SF 3-pack! Finished copies of Shadow Show: All New Stories in Celebration of Ray Bradbury, Redshirts by John Scalzi, and a SIGNED copy of FEED by MT Anderson
Prize Pack 3
Advanced reader copy 3-pack! Eve & Adam by Michael Grant and KA Applegate (which we’ll be reviewing tomorrow here at the Academy), The Infects by Sean Beaudoin, and The Future We Left Behind by Mike Lancaster
Prize 4
This is the real deal–a prize which may or may not make me weep as I put it in the mail. Prize 4 is one of the first ever advanced readers copies of my own book, Starglass, out in July of 2013 from Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers (signed, of course!). It is so hot-off-the-presses that I can’t even show you the cover (keep an eye out for the cover reveal–and another giveaway–over at the Book Smugglers on September 19th). But it exists! Here’s a shot of the back cover.
And here’s the blurb:
Terra has never known anything but life aboard the Asherah, a city-within-a-spaceship that left Earth five hundred years ago in search of refuge. At sixteen, working a job that doesn’t interest her, and living with a grieving father who only notices her when he’s yelling at her, Terra is sure that there has to be more to life than what she’s got.
But when she inadvertently witnesses the captain’s guard murdering an innocent man, Terra is suddenly thrust into the dark world beneath the Asherah‘s idyllic surface. As she’s drawn into a secret rebellion determined to restore power to the people, Terra discovers that her choices may determine life or death for the people she cares most about. With mere months to go before landing on the long-promised planet, Terra has to make the choice of a lifetime–one that will determine the fate of her people.
Thanks for entering, everyone, and for all your wonderful support and participation!

Happy anniversary, IGA, and happy birthday, Sean. I’m not entering in any of the giveaways (I’ve already stolen a copy of Starglass from you’re home. I know where you live. Whenever you hear a thump in the middle of the night, that’s me hitting my head against your wall because I’m the clumsiest stalker ever. And someday, someday… I will destroy you.
. But just out of curiosity, why are you giving away I Am Number Four when you apparently hate it? I’m just saying, it seems like bad planning to mention you hate it in that review for Obsidian, and then give it away.
Quote
Because I was sent the trilogy unsolicited from a publisher and someone else might enjoy it!
(For the record, I thought the first book was very bland, but I don’t hate it.

Also, ee, get out of my house!
